How to Make a Tapa Cloth

Equipment

A3 white blank piece of paper folded into 8 small rectangles
1 vivid
Brown dye
A sketch pencil
A2 black piece of paper
Stapler

Method

1.First you need your A3 white blank piece of paper, which is folded into 8 small rectangles.

2.Then you have to draw a pattern that relates with the our pacific neighbours. You might want to draw it on some scrap paper first incase your pattern on your real paper doesn’t work out well.

3.Once you have got your pattern on your real paper you might need to get some newspaper and put it underneath your work incase vivid goes on your table. You get your vivid and outline everything that is in pencil.

4.After that you need to rub out any pencil that you see. Once you have finished that you need your brown dye and dye the whole thing.

5.Next you wait for it to dry and then scrunch it up to give it the tapa cloth feeling and then you open it up and there you go a tapa cloth.

Discovering our Pacific Neighbours

This week we have been learning about our Pacific neighbours. We have been bringing items from Pacific Islands, such as instruments, costumes, ornaments, photos, books and more. We are very proud of what we have been doing so far. Have a look at these photos to see just how fun it is learning in Room 29, the best class ever!

Our school fair

We had a special visitor "Clifford - The Red Dog" come to visit us on Friday the 11th June. Clifford had come to our school because we are holding a scholastic book fair. When Clifford came to our class he brought 3 books with him and then choose one Mrs. Sidhwa (our teacher) could read to all of us. He chose the book called "The Strong Wolf". The story was about a wolf who bullies all the forest animals to say that he is the strongest in the woods, but then comes across a dragon and learns his lesson of never bullying again. It was a good story and we enjoyed listening to it with Clifford by our side. The Scholastic Fair will continue all of next week and we can buy them by choosing any book from all the fabulous books on display in our library. We love having this book fair at our school because Point View Children love to read !

Our School

We are the awesome students of Point View School, and we are here to show you around our school. If you want to visit us online you can go to www.pointview.school.nz.
Let us tell you a bit about our school. It is a huge school. It is also the BEST school in the whole universe. We have a Big professional field and 3 playgrounds, one for Junior school, one for Middle school and a really cool one for the Senior school. They are all big and fun to play on. We also have 3 court areas to practice sports like netball and basketball. We have about 8oo children at this school. We have a fantastic library full of books and an ICT suite full of computers. People get smart when you read books and work on computers. We also have a huge hall. We do fitness, assembly's and sometimes watch movies in the hall. We also host our productions and Music Festivals there too. Our school has 33 classrooms and all of this is surrounded by beautiful and well maintained gardens, because we are an Enviro school too. We are really PROUD of our school and hope that you enjoy watching these photos of our school we took for your viewing pleasure !

Room 29's chopstick popcorn eating race.

In Room 29 we are learning about Ancient China, and we learnt that Chinese people use chopsticks to eat their food. Since most of us had never used a chopstick we decided to use it. This led our teacher to get some popcorn which we made in class and then using our chopsticks we started our popcorn eating race. We had heaps of fun trying to eat our popcorn with chopsticks. Some of us were better than others, but ALL of us had heaps of fun !

Our first blog!

Welcome to our Room 29 blog! Today we learned that a blog is short for 'weblog', or a log on the web! We will be recording what we have done in class on this blog, so please keep visiting!

A group of us from Room 29 became experts in blogging today so we can teach the rest of the class.
